In October last year, we wrote a news article that introduced first the father, Joe, and then son, Blake as a front runner and upcoming superstar of Outlaw 10.5 racing.
Supported by famed tuner Josh Ledford (Squatch) and wrench man Joel Hull, this team has outstripped the competition in 2020.
Taking their 4th win in so many races, Copson Racing earned themselves an NHRA Wally on Friday 4th September in the deferred final from August. THEN on Saturday 5th September doubled it up with another win!
The Copson team qualified 2nd with a 3.778 at Cecil County Dragway, in the quickest field for 2020, and then took out Brian Chin, Mo Hall, and Joe Newsham with a 3.79, making it 4 for 4.
“What a weekend it was. We got Copson Racing their first Wally by winning the final round from August that we made up during qualifying. Then we doubled up and won the current race, what a weekend” said Josh Ledford. “We’re now getting ready to take on Shakedown again in a few weeks at Virginia Motorsports Park!”.
The team has had a milestone year, even slipping in an X275 win at the DXP Magic 8, taking the helm of Manny Buginga’s 2nd car. Blake steered the turbocharged X275 Mustang “Big Red” to the top spot with a whopping 4.26 ET putting him firmly in No1.
On race day, Copson worked his way through the 8-car field, facing Charles Hull in the final round. The young protégé from the Copson Racing team has an incredible career ahead of him, as he took the winner’s trophy with a 4.259 at 164.83 mph!
Jamie Miller, renowned PLR tuner and chassis specialist, tuned Buginga’s car along with Steve Petty and supported by a team of well-known expertise.
